Horse Shoe Matches New Owner?!

Ok...this is just WAY too adorable to not post...

This shoe was purchased at the MD State Fair and the little dog matches the shoe's little doggie exactly! We didnt get the lady's name but she let us take this picture.

WOW!!

SUPER BUSY AT THE FAIR TODAY!!

There were oodles of people that stopped by our booth to say hello and chat. Our horse shoes are as popular as they were last year (my poor, poor finger tips! lol) and we are getting ready to open our online Shoe Store!

We have a few pending adoptions and will post that info soon...

Jo and Patty at the state fair...with our new Angel Acres banner! Big thanks to Signsations and Chuck Gambo for the sign and the wonderful gift basket being raffled off!

Big Thanks to Lizzie, Aaron and Stephen for all of their hard work!

Rainy and cold day at the rescue...

Hey Everyone,

Well, today was one super rainy day! I had planned to take some photos of Juliet to post and it was raining all day, I never even got the camera out. I will take some tomorrow and post them on the blog.

Electricity went out at the fair today for an hour or so. It was REALLY a slow day at the Fair...we are hoping for a busy day tomorrow.

Wishing you a happy (and dry!) weekend!

Romeo, where for art thou?

Well...he's right here!

This is Romeo, and yep, Juliet is here too! She wil be pictured tomorrow...

Romeo was adopted by Jo-Ellen. Jo-Ellen wanted to do something special for her birthday. She came out, met Romeo and that was it! She adopted him on the spot...but...she has no where to keep him.

So, we had an idea...what if her generousity could benefit both a horse and a child?

Soooo...with Jo-Ellen's blessing, are going to free lease Romeo to a 4-h or pony club child who would like to ride and take care of horse, but isnt in the position to purchase a guy or gal.

Romeo is going to make some young lady or young man very happy. We cant thank Jo-Ellen enough for her incredible kindness and generousity

She also wanted to help Juliet...check back tomorrow to see pictures of Juliet and learn how Jo-Ellen has helped her too!

Toodles!

From Fran...

Hi Folks- Fran here.. blogging for JO.. just a few things that are happening with Angel Acres this week. We are happy to announce Mojo left today for his new home... Goldie got a visit from the vet and is getting some new meds to attend to his rundowns and his abscess.. his foot will be wrapped daily..Tippy is "ruling the roost" over at Monkton - he must be the first in the "food" line.

Maui and Golden, Golden look alike- it is really tough to identify them over at Sparks....Bandit is one nice mover..

Stormy is loving his pals in the field- Libby especially..

Jake is now at Sparks and happy as can be... but he needs a good home...

And of course Super Nationals is "super national" at the red barn..

We have been busy at the MD State fair trying to raise $$ to save more horses. Please come and visit us when you can. I am afraid we are looking at rain tomorrow and Friday but the weekend should be good. Many thanks to those that have stopped by and said hi and donated..

WE THANK YOU!!

I think Jo is going to post the shoe store on line for maybe 60 days. These shoes make awesome Xmas gifts and we have some very nice Halloween shoes as well...Please tell everyone you know!!

Thanks,

Fran

Markie Goes to A-rated Show!

Good Morning Everyone,

I was going to post about the Fair this morning...but wanted to share the following with you...will post later about the fair...

Liesha is the proud Mom of Markie, a Thoroughbred mare once bound for slaughter.

We are so thrilled with the way that this wonderful family has cared for Markie and the amazing progress she has made. Kathy, Liesha's Mom, will be starting a blog called, "The Markie Chronicles" we will be hosting their blog link on our scroller!

I thoroughly enjoy getting my Markie and Liesha fix and we think you will too!

Big thank you to this wonderful family for giving this mare a second chance and a simply fabulous life!

Jo

Markie...read on...

Markie says look at my pretty braids. I'm going to an A-Rated show today so I have to look really special!

Ok, so I was a little silly in the Equitation classes, except the jumping ones because I love to jump. I redeemed myself in the Hunter Division. I ended up with 2 thirds, 1 fifth, 1 sixth & 1 seventh out of 11 riders.

Look it's a statue, no it's just a wet Markie.

Here's a pictures of me right after my post-show bath. Don't I look beautiful? Muscular yet feminine.

Lilo...the pony...

I just received this email update about Lilo...the pony we rescued back in December of 2007. Happy endings like this are what keeps us going and no paycheck could ever equal the feeling when get when we get emails like this...read on...

From Email from Liz:

Here are two pictures of Bella and a hippotherapy session. Thought you may want to see her at work. Notice how she does not even care that he is not sitting on her the "right way". She really loves the kids. She is helping these kids in ways that I cannot describe. She is helping with trunk control, confidence and balance issues. The parents and Physical Therapist and I can see a difference from the first time a child had a lesson and 8 weeks later.

I cannot thank the heavens enough when I contacted you to ask about a pony. It was meant to be.

I have a little girl Faith that takes a hippotherapy lesson on her. Her story is a long one, but to keep it short, She lost oxygen to her brain for 10 min. She is a lovely little girl. When she was born she had a twin that did not make it called Isabella, Bella for short. Faith is only 4 and will be 5 in Sept., Bella our pony is only 4 and now will share Faiths birthday on Sept 6th. Her mom and I think that Bella is her sister in spirit and is watching over her.

Her and Freedom must know they came from the same place. He truly loves her and plays with her and protects her. She and him are always in a stall together. I was watching them yesterday play. She trots off and he canters around her.

Thanks again for two truly wonderful equines and friends!!

Liz

Ms. Thing goes on her own...

Good Morning!

Well, Ms. Thing decided that she would rather not wait for me to get out to feed breakfast! She untied her stall and mosied up the hill to the hay bale waiting for morning feeding. THIS is what happens when I am 30 mins late for breakfast! LOL! Horses on the loose...well, horses being pokey searching for hay!

Ms. Thing is a 30 year old retired (she does do babysitting for some of our rescue horses) grade horse with tons of personality. She is recovering from an ulcer on her eye and a wound under her forelock. We think she may have scratched it on a fence post. She wears a fly mask so we are still not sure how she got it the injury.

Angel Acres own Dr. Wells will be out to recheck her boo boo's tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone!

Aug. 3, 2008

Greetings!! I apologize for the lateness of my blog but lots has been happening at Angel Acres and I have been out of town for a few days.

Welcome Home KC

Let me start out first by saying that KC has been adopted. If you have been reading our website KC has not been posted yet. He was in terrible condition when rescued at New Holland several weeks ago. Jo wasn’t going to post him until we could get him back in good shape.Jackie and I have been working tirelessly to try and get weight on him.

Bobbi, an experienced “horseman”, stepped up on Friday and adopted KC, her second Angel Acres horse. She had met KC several weeks ago while helping us with that barn while Jackie was shipping horses for Jo. I know her very well and can personally attest that she is the BEST!! She just happens to be my barn manager!!

After Bobbi picked up KC at Jackie’s barn (Jackie is our trainer) she rode in the trailer with her new “child” over to her farm where her 2 horses, Rumor (adopted from Angel Acres) and Thunder (26 years old), were awaiting. Her barn is only about 15 minutes from our satellite farm in Sparks. Bobbi said all 3 of her horses had a wonderful first meeting and ran off together in the field. A little bit later Bobbi walked out to check out something in the run in shed.

KC came over to her and put his head on her shoulder as if to say, “Thank you for helping me!” Immediately Bobbi started to cry and told him that she wished that she could save them all!! Hey Bobbi! on behalf of Jo, Jackie and me we cannot say enough about how excited and happy we are for KC and you. He couldn’t have found a better home!!

Moving Day
Speaking of homes we have now relocated a few of our horses to another farm in the Monkton area. The farm where we were previously located is up for sale. Thanks to the kindness of some folks in Monkton we are now housing 3 of our horses at Camelot Farm. Jackie and I took Goldie (my special boy), Mojo and George over on Friday. The trip was uneventful with the exception of Mojo’s antics. He doesn’t like to load so Jackie had to blindfold him and back him up the ramp. It took a few minutes longer but we got him loaded.

They love their new field so much so they have no interest in coming into the barn. This is a great farm with lots of grass which the other farm lacked. They immediately cantered all along their pasture. Wish I had had a video camera so I could post their “first gallop”. It was quite a sight. Many thanks to Camelot for their kindness.

State Fair
I also want to remind anyone in the Md. area not to miss our booth at the Md State Fair at the Timonium Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland beginning Aug 22- Sept. 1. (Labor Day) We will be in the Exhibition Hall selling our decorated horse shoes. These are worn shoes that were donated to us. Thanks to Greg, Jo’s husband, they are buffed and painted. Jo is quite the artist and decorates them. Hope to see you there.

Volunteers
Thank you to our newest volunteers .Thank you Renee from the York Development Center. Your group has been SO helpful with helping us to care for our horses and our decorated horse shoes. Also a big thanks to Bobbie and her daughter Kimmie from Baltimore. They have come out several times to help us with stalls, hay, horses, etc. at our Sparks, Freeland and Monkton facility. And Angela Douty’s Pony Club visited Jo at the Pa. farm on Friday. Thank you all so much for your help. We are so very appreciative.

If anyone reading this is interested in volunteering at one of our farms- Freeland, Monkton, Sparks or Pa. please drop Jo an email.
All for now- Fran
