Hey CNN - Why Not Include Animal Hero's? come there are NO animal heroes in the CNN Hero Thingy? All of the chosen people and causes are FABULOUS and desperately needed...but why not make a section for animal hero's?

I am betting some of these people have pets in their lives that mean a lot to them...I know of 5 people going WAY above and beyond the call of duty for animals - yet they are never mentioned in mainstream media, which I find odd since pets (of all types from the very small to the very large) are such a huge part of the American way of life.

There are animal hero's working every day in ...every aspect of animal welfare - why doesn't CNN or some other well known news/television/radio group - A NON ANIMAL RELATED GROUP that can get the word out to the general public - do something like this for animal hero's?

If there are any out there, please let me know, I have not able to find one group that does something like this for animal hero's that isn't animal related.

I'd love to hear Anderson Cooper's thoughts on this...

Crocket Rescued Near Death - Sigh...

This is the horse we helped get to safety today - his name is Crocket.

Evidently he was being boarded somewhere in West Virginia and he was not being fed by the farm owners. For whatever reason they decided NOT to feed him due to a conflict with the horses owner.
So, allegedly the mentallity of these people was that "Hey, I am mad at the owner of Crocket so I will let his horse starve" now...what kind of vile, heartless person does that?

I am waiting on full details to come in about Crocket and when they do I will post them. We got the call at 7am this morning and immediately went into action - there was a safe place waiting for him to keep him till he gains weight and feels better (but the owner had NO idea he was this bad) they just needed (or so they thought at the time) transportation help for the horse.

Because not only did they allow this poor guy to starve nearly to death, they were going to allegedly send him to slaughter or in some other fashion end his life on Sunday. So, we called our hauler and he said absolutely he would go get the horse - he canceled his plans for the day and spent more than 5 hours (one way) driving to get him and was appauled at what he saw when he arrived. He said that the people that did this to him should go to jail and it is the worst he has ever seen.

It is horses like this that need Mattie's Legacy Fund - without it we cannot assist horses like Crocket. We will now be helping foster Mom Deanne, with feed, medical, feet, etc and we will be walking the foster mom through his refeeding so that he does not develop refeeding syndrome, and whatever else he needs.

Once he has a forever home, if he recovers, we will be using Mattie's Legacy Fund to transport him again. Angel Acres will make sure he gets a loving, wonderful forever home!

Thank you to everyone who has donated to Mattie's Fund in the past and those who have thought about donating...without you...we could not have helped Crocket - he is the 11th horse we have assisted in just the past month...

We will keep you posted on his progress and will post photos of his arrival this evening once we get them via email.

It's Almost Thanksgiving At Angel Acres!

Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, Inc.
Dear Jo,

I hope this note finds you well! Thanksgiving is almost here so I wanted to send this newsletter out before our annual Thanksgiving Newsletter.

We have so many things to be thankful for this year - so I decided to split the newsletter into two different emails.

We have been incredibly lucky this month alone; two fantastic ladies organized two different events to benefit the Angel Acres gang!

Please see the articles below for details - biggest thanks to these two fabulously kind and generous women - from all of us at Angel Acres!
Legendary Bingo!
cathy aSuper big thanks to Cathy for arranging this fantastically fun event to help the Angel Acres gang! All proceeds from this event will go to our rescue fund and will help us pull a horse from the kill pen!

Knowing we were headed out to California to work on some exciting stuff to help Thoroughbreds, Cathy decided to see if Angel Acres could be put on the Legendary Bingo's charity list (the waiting list is usually several months long) and they happened to have a cancellation for the Wednesday night we would be in Los Angeles!

With very little time to work with, Cathy along with the help of her friend Stacy, worked hard to get donated items for the prizes for the bingo and they both personally donated items for the event.

It took place in West Hollywood and a great time was had by all!

Big thanks to Cathy for pulling this all together for the horses!

Cupcake Camp L.A.
babette hosted the first Cupcake Camp L.A. at The Music Box in L.A. on Saturday.

56 amazing bakers and hundreds of cupcake seeking people attended this event; all proceeds were donated to charities - Angel Acres (YEA!!), and American Tortoise Rescue were the three featured charities.

We are honored to have been chosen by founder Babette Papej, to be one of the charities participating in this awesome event.

Thank you from all of us at Angel Acres for helping us help more horses in need!

Heading To Los Angeles - New Group To Be Founded For OTTB's!

We are heading to Los Angeles for a few reasons:

1) Founding a new organization designed to help and promote thoroughbreds.
2) Attending the Cupcake Camp L.A. event that will benefit the Angel Acres gang, Invisible People, and Tortoise Rescue.
3) Attending Legendary Bingo in West Hollywood that will benefit Angel Acres.

For quite a while now several of us (in the rescue and horse welfare world) have been trying to promote the thoroughbred horse as more than a race horse. We will be meeting out in L.A. to found this new organization and we will update you when we have completed the process and will announce the details of our fledgling organization. (pertinent names, websites, etc have been secured at this time)

It will be a non profit dedicated to promoting the thoroughbred breed as a sport horse. An association in which the horses are not bred for the sport but are already here waiting on a second career.

After some test marketing and speaking to literally dozens of people we have decided to move forward with our plans and expect a great reception for our new organization!

Have a happy weekend!

2nd Annual Decorate The Angel Acres Tree

Decorate The Angel Acres
Tree & Help Our Velvet-Noses!

It's that time of year again! Time to help decorate the Angel Acres Tree and help the velvet-noses currently awaiting adoption at Angel Acres! We are starting just a tad earlier than last year due to the mail being a bit pokey during the holidays ;o)

If you would like to help us, it's pretty easy! All you need to do is mail us a holiday card with $1 in it. Your card will be added to our tree.

We will be posting photos of our tree as it fills up with cards - we will post the link on our website and it will be updated daily.

We are hoping to fill the whole tree this year - your donations and cards helped us feed the gang throughout last years brutal winter. We received over 5ft of snow in about 6 days - I am getting cold just thinking about it - yikes!

To help, simply mail your holiday card with $1 to: Angel Acres, PO Box 62, Glenville, Pa 17329. And please spread the word to like 1000, ok 10, of your friends :o)

Be sure to check our website on Christmas Eve to see the tree you helped us to decorate!

Click Here To Forward To Friends & Family :o)

Have a super happy evening,
