How Deceptive Can An Online Ad Be? Apparently, VERY!

Angel Acres

Hay, We Need It!

Newest Rescue is 6 Year Old OTTB Magic!

donate to angel acresThis gelding was brought to our attention by some internet savvy folks who sent me the CraigsList ad for him (since removed). But, you can see the original ad with same picture & info they used for the CL ad - HERE - you will be shocked at the difference. The ad shows a gorgeous, healthy, sound horse...this is what our hauler found when he picked up him last week....

To say we were shocked is an understatemnt. Magic's page on our site is HERE.

He is emaciated, covered in rainrot, & was left outside for MONTHS in the weather as the people charged with his care watched him starve (family "friends" that were supposed to be taking care of him because his owner packed up & moved out of state). Yet, through all of that he is still super sweet and very kind. You can see him getting his first bath by clicking HERE - it's a short clip :o)

He is in need of sponsorship during his recovery, we estimate 9 months to a 1 year before he is fully recovered. Interested in sponsoring him or someone else? Click HERE!

This is Enrica, we are helping her family stay together via Mattie's Legacy Fund. Her Mom, Laura, lost her job & is in staying a shelter. Laura's friend is keeping Enrica & her two mini horse friends until Laura is back on her feet. She is just one of the many horse families we help stay together & keep safe around the nation via Mattie's Legacy Fund.

Learn more about Mattie's Legacy Fund.

Your donation of as little as $10 can help us purchase much needed hay; larger donations help us purchase feed, vet care, foot care, etc & allow us to pull horses from the kill pens & rescue, retrain & rehome them.

Mattie's Legacy Fund is dependent upon donations to allow us to help horse families in the USA - the need for help is great & we receive requests for help almost every single day. .

Some folks asked about PayPal - we do have a paypal addy - angelacreshorsehaven@yahoo.com is our paypal address.

I hope that your New Year is off to a fantastic start and thank you for being apart of the Angel Acres Gang,,

Mattie to the Rescue!

Happy Monday!

Mattie's Legacy Fund assisted 21 horses in the past 6 weeks - moving horses to safety, feeding horses, providing vet and farrier care. MLF is based in Pennsylvania & has a nationwide outreach.

MLF helps keep horses safe in their homes by providing assistance to families going through a financial, health, or other crisis. We listen to and work with horse owners in need; helping to keep horses safe in their homes and out of the slaughter pipeline.

We cannot do this life saving work without your help - do you have a horsey skill? Are you vet, a farrier, can you provide temporary foster care or have hay to donate to the fund? Can you make a donation?

When they need our help it's on VERY short notice - so we need help your help now to be prepared to provide assistance when the call for help comes in.

Philly Billboard is UP! YEA!! Send Us Your Photos!

The Philadelphia Stop Slaughtering Us billboard is up!

Please let us know if you see it and if you can take a picture of it with you in the photo please send that to us...we would love to see our billboards in pictures with our readers and supporters!

This board is 14 ft by 48 ft and is located on
US 1 Roosevelt Expressway 500 ft south of Wissahickon Ave facing north.

Visit the billboards companion site by clicking HERE and learn how you can help us get a board up in Florida!

Some pro slaughter folks have asked us WHY we are spending money that could be spent on the horses on this billboard campaign - ONLY funds designated for the billboards are being used for this educational campaign.

In order for horse slaughter to stop the American public needs to know it is going on. That is the NUMBER #1 reason we are doing it so people become aware, visit the website and learn how they can help stop it!

Brittany F. stated in reply to this article (pro slaughter slant from a wannabe cow girl) ...

"Don't they realize that maybe by raising awareness people will want to donate to help save the horses?

If they dont know about it how can they donate??? Also, maybe it would spur some more people to set up rescue organizations, but you need to raise awareness first! People can't help solve a problem they aren't aware of!"

She goes on to say, "And I think it is really crappy of them to actually use Angel Acres's name like that..."

I was not even contacted for the article or was aware of it till one of our readers sent it to me and I have to agree with Brittany...totally uncool to use our name without even contacting us first.

I have offered to debate Sue Wallis, Senator Tyson Larson and have contacted the author of the article - no replies from any of them. Wonder why? hhhmmmm...

Sadly, Prince Loses His Battle

It is with a very, very heavy heart that I write this tonight...we lost Prince at about 8pm this evening. I went to check on him at 5pm and he was down in the stall, breathing rapidly and could not get up. His legs had been shaking earlier in the day and he was really unsteady.

He had trailered in from Philly and we had no idea how thin and weak he was...we were all shocked when he got off the trailer. We also found out that he was in liver failure (we are awaiting a call back from the agency that first got the call about him to determine if they pulled blood or not) and probably endstage kidney failure. My vet said he was suprised he had survived this long and we all agreed he was the most emaciated horse any of us has ever seen.

He had been starved a very, very long time and his body just gave out. I want to thank Clare who sent out the troops for us immediately...Ben arrived to help try to get him up, then Clare showed up with Mike...Clare closed her store to be with us...and then my husband came home to me in the barn in tears...then our vet who was on the way from my first call arrived.

I want to tell everyone reading this that these 5 people treated this horse with more kindness, respect and love in his last hours than he probably saw in the last several years. Ben and Mike and Greg made sure he was laying on a mat and Ben made sure that a towel and soft flannel jacket was under his head at all times...he was with us only a very, very short time...we tried to fill his last days with lots of love and kindness...we are all better people for having had the chance to hold him, just for a little while.

I am too upset to write anymore this evening...thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Prince...my husband has lovingly covered him with a warm blanket and he will be taken care of in the morning.
