HI,We were recently asked if we are a no kill shelter and why we feel we need this makeover...below is my response to this inquiry...we felt we should post it to the whole forum.

Hi,Thank you for writing and asking us these questions! We are happy to answer you as best we can. We are a no kill shelter, we do not euthanize horses as a method of population control. We have euthanized 4 horses in five years due to medical necessity that was indicated by our vet. These were reluctantly done, after secondary vet consultation in all 4 cases, and these horses were given a humane and dignified ending surrounded by people who loved and cared for them.
Volunteers who wept for days afterwards because we tried so hard to save them and right the wrongs that had been done to them before their arrival at our rescue. We work really, really hard to save these guys and do not take our responsibility to the horses lightly.
We feel we need this makeover for a number of reasons, too many too list here, but will list a few...we need a new lower barn, it is falling down and suitable only for hay storage. Our riding area and round pen were built with 100 year old barn wood and needs to be replaced. We started on a shoe-string and devote hours and hours and hours each day to making sure the horses are taken care of to the best of our ability.
We also need a hay storage building, we currently have to run weekly to pick up hay, we did just put up a donated building to be used as a feed room. It is about 20+ years old and we had to drag it (via a home made contraption) to our property. It doesnt look great, but it works for now.
There are many, many reasons why we would like to get this makeover. The number one reason being it would allow us to make better use of the facility we have and free up our time by taking some of the labor intensive chores and making them more time friendly.A
nd maybe the #1 reason...our horses deserve the best...they have been thrown away because they werent fast enough to earn their keep, we want them to have a second chance at life. We are an upfront, above-board, honest rescue.
We put the horses above everything else, and pride ourselves on our integrity.I hope that I have answered your questions ok...if you would like more info, please feel free to email me privately or give me a call.
Thank you so much for writing!Jo :o)

Hi Jo,
Your response to the person that asked you the question was fantastic. It was upfront, honest and to the point. I pray that you get this make-over, you and your horses deserve it more than anything. And to anyone reading this comment, Jo goes above and beyond the call of duty for all her horses, she is an inspiration to me.
Thank you Lisa!! What a very nice comment! I hope we get it too...or at least make it to the finals! We really, really have a hard time competing with the smalle rescues...but we know our readers will participate and earn points for us! We currently in 5th place!! Have a happy day!
