Help Needed to Get Gelding To Safety!

Angel Acres Needs HELP For GELDING Right AWAY - Glenville, PA Greetings! Happy Wednesday! This was supposed to be a much happier newsletter...instead we need your help. We have an emergency situation...so...here is the skinny below: We need help getting a gelding from Huntington area in KY to Bumpass, VA. Mattie's Legacy Fund has covered the shots, coggins and health certificate for this guy and have arranged for a safe place for him to go...but no new funds have come in and the fund is completey depleted...sigh...the total shown at Mattie's Legacy Fund is what came in from July and those funds and additional funds raised offline have been used. The fund is currently empty and we need transport assistance for him. The family has had tremendous illness, jobless, car break downs, etc. and thru it all has managed to care for their horses (other horse is now safe) and feed them...we are doing our best to help them...all info has been verified and horse is coming into one of our safe houses in VA. HOW YOU CAN HELP: Please let us know if you know of any good transporters that run along the East Coast. We estimating the cost at between $400 and $500 for hitching a ride with someone going from KY to VA. When the truck is empty...sigh...we STILL need you...

What happens AFTER the truck is coming turns into the truck is empty? And now there are real live to save?

Rescues need help AFTER the SAVE...we need to care for the horses after we get them...that means quarantine board, then transport, coggins, feet, teeth, deworming, feeding, etc...

There is absolutely no glory or excitement in paying the feed bill or the vet...but there IS glory in seeing a once starving horse (like Bandito at left) being fed and getting healthy. We need YOUR help making those amazing and exciting before and after stories.

What does this mean? It means our grain bill runs at LEAST $2000 per month...we need help with that...Quarantine board is $250 per month, ditto...Vetting one single horse is about $150 to $200 on average...and on and on...please don't forget helping rescues after the save!

Angel Acres does not normally (we have on occasion for super duper emergency situations, I think 3 times over 6 years) raise funds to the tune of the "truck is coming" we do have a slaughter/rescue fund for going to auction if people want to donate way BEFORE the auction.

Please consider helping with our day to day care - its just as important as the slaughter fund...and will help us keep helping horses like Bandito!

Whomever is eating horse meat in the USA (via the illegally slaughtered horses in Florida) or wherever, I sure hope you read this...maybe your own health being at risk will make you think twice about eating American horses.

Since the pain and suffering you (YOU meaning whoever is committing these horrific acts & YOU meaning the person eating, maybe one in the same ) are inflicting upon someones riding partner, friend, pet, companion, (insert word) etc. has no affect on your cold, calculating and money motivated heart...maybe the fact that you (see ref above) will probably suffer some health repercussions for your heinous acts of violence towards innocent victims MIGHT give you reason to pause and consider your acts and stop this terrible, barbaric and illegal act!

If not, I hope they find you and throw the book at you...

Dewey Arrives in PA - Update by new Mom Lesley!

This is Dewey and Lesley taken yesterday, at Dewey's new home! Lesley says he is settling in well and is getting used to his new surroundings...evidently Dewey had never seen a cow up front and personal before...well, he has now! That is what he is looking at in this photo.

Lesley is letting him settle in and showing him around...we will keep you updated on his progress...big thanks to Lesley for giving this sweet, deserving guy a fantastic home...the farm is beautiful as well...hhhmmmm....wonder if Lesley might like to be an Angel Acres repeat adopter?! LOL!!

Mocha and Chloe - Update!

EMERGENCY HOME NEEDED! PLEASE CROSS POST AND FORWARD

There are two horses in desperate need of homes, they have been assisted by Mattie's Legacy Fund, but the barn manager decided they needed to leave now, instead of in two months, as we were told!

Mattie's Legacy's Bridge The Gap Fund has paid for their Coggins, shots, vet...we were planning to place them, but not with such short notice!

We are looking for a home or even foster care for Belle and Cloud, an 8 year old gorgeous Dark Bay TB mare and 25 year old flea bitten grey Arabian. Below is the email info from owner:

"Belle is an 8 year old thoroughbred mare. She stands 15.3H last time measured. Belle has been ridden English and has the smoothest gates i have ridden.I would consider her slightly green broke. She would excel in dressage and with little training would be a great show horse. She is a sweet horse..."

Cloud (grey gelding shown above) is a 25 year old Arabian. He is 15.1H and flea-bitten gray. He loads, ties, and clips. He will pretty much do anything you ask if he trusts you. He is a great trail horse and will go any where. Cloud is a big sweetheart. Almost anyone can ride him on trails."

Garcon D'or Goes To Foster Training Home!

Garcon D'or aka Gee went off to his foster moms home today! Fran, who has Dustin's Dreamer, wanted to help out even more with the rescue gang and decided to take Gee to her place and school him on the flat and basically work with him for the next couple of months.

Gee is EXCEPTIONALLY kind, pleasant, quiet, well-behaved and is a fantastic mover on top of all that! He has no issues, no vices, no bad habits...just a good boy who will make someone a very happy horse owner...really soon!

This is Gee waiting for the trailer to be ready to hop on...as you can see his is very anxious...NOT! LOL! Notice Pippin, our barn managers dog, just a foot away from Gee. He is SUCH a good boy!

He has some superficial bites on his back and hiney and is really low in the pecking order...we hope he finds his forever home soon after his training...he really deserves it!

Lewisbury Youth Group!

Unfortunately, my camera battery died and I was not able to get pictures of todays volunteer group! They braved the stifling, awful heat and were here bright and early!

They were fabulous!! They cleaned out Ole Blue (our storage van) and took down some seriously mean wasp nests as well getting her all organized and spiffy! Blue tends to get cluttered pretty quickly...she may not be on the road, but Blue sure earns her keep! LOL! Will post some pics tomorrow.

They mucked stalls for us, (THANK YOU!) they scrubbed water tubs, fed the sheep, goat and pot bellies. They also helped decorate a ton of shoes for our upcoming fundraiser!

Matties Legacy Fund Helps TB Mare!

Our first horse helped by the Mattie's Legacy Fund is a thorougbred mare originally saved by Mid Atlantic Horse Rescue and then rehomed through Angel Acres.

Mid Atlantic and Angel Acres work closely together to help as many horses in need as possible. This lovely mare was adopted out in 2004 and now, due to financial reasons, the sweet girl needs to be rehomed. Knowing our policy of always taking back our horses, the family called us and told us the situation. We were able to send the family money to cover her cost for 2 months while we find her a forever home...we could not do this without the help we have received from our readers and supporters from all over the country.
